Host a Summer Intern from UW Evans School - Apply by March 5

This is a great opportunity for organizations outside the normal commute range of the Evans School to host a summer fellow. Apply by March 5

In partnership with WCMA, the University of Washington Evans School ICMA Chapter is offering two Local Government Summer Fellowships to Evans School students pursuing summer internship positions in sponsor organizations farther from the urbanized areas of the Puget Sound.

What is the UW ICMA Local Government Fellowship Program?

To support internship opportunities in local governments across the state of Washington, the UW ICMA will be awarding two Local Government Summer Fellowships to Evans School students pursuing summer internship positions in sponsor organizations farther from the urbanized areas of the Puget Sound.

As part of the fellowship program, sponsoring cities are expected to provide a paid, term-limited position that focuses on developing the fellow’s professional skills while engaging them with the organization and the community. Fellowship recipients will be awarded a $2,500 stipend by UW ICMA, which has been funded by WCMA, to support their relocation expenses to their summer community.

Apply to Be a Sponsor!

Each spring, students at the Evans School begin their search for a summer internship. After a year of rigorous core courses from one of the nation’s top MPA programs, they are eager to apply their skills in good governance and exemplary public service. The UW ICMA Local Government Summer Fellowship Program helps to connect students with organizations like you!

Former WCMA Executive Secretary Passes Away

On January 11, 2018 , John Lamb (Age 93) passed away comfortably with his wife Ann and children by his side.

Many of you didn’t have the opportunity to know and work with John but for those of us who did this is a milestone passing.

WCMA President Derek Matheson conveyed this message from WCMA to John's wife, Ann.

On behalf of the Washington City/County Management Association (WCMA), I would like to extend our sincere condolences to you and your family. John Lamb was a champion for good local government in Washington and a deeply respected leader within the city management profession.

John served on the WCMA board for many years and was the glue that held our organization together. He was a true gentleman who mentored an entire a generation of local government leaders in Washington State. He was generous with his time and was always available to provide advice, guidance and understanding to his colleagues. When managers encountered difficult times, as is not uncommon in this profession, John was there to help. Not only was he an outstanding professional, but also a valued friend.

John is part of a generation of city managers that truly pioneered our profession in Washington.  He will be missed, and our members continue to have great memories of his work and friendship.
